The Tale of the Shepherd Boy

At the center of the enchanting rolling meadows, lived a shepherd boy. His life was mostly pure, simple, and honest. His only responsibility was essentially to care for his herd of ewes.
Their soft bleating and the murmuring of the wind through the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main co-dwellers. Day in day, guarding his responsibilities inculcated in him a feeling of calm satisfaction.
However, there were the occasional moments of isolation, when the shepherd boy would long for companionship. On one such day because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy devised a mischievous scheme.
Tales of wild beasts prowling on sheep had been around for a while in the village. So, the boy chose to leveraged this fear and played a trick on the villagers.
One afternoon he raced into the village shouting “Wolf! There is a wolf that has taken my sheep!” The scared villagers ran up the hills to help but found no wolf.
The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This game continued for a couple of more days. But, one day, a real wolf did charge at the flock. The shepherd boy raced for aid shouting “Wolf, Wolf!” But this time, no one showed up.
Frustrated and alone, the boy struggled against the wolf but could protect only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to be met with a lesson on honesty and the results of false alarms.
His tale of this shepherd boy has been handed down generations here as a mediaeval parable to teaching the significance of honesty, the implications of dishonesty and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it stresses how trust once lost, is tough to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was then.
